Classical Revival & Stripped Classical Style

THE FORMER GOVERNMENT BUILDING was not completed until 1939. This pared- back interpretation of the Classical Style is typical of buildings of the 1930s found in Washington DC, known as Craeco Deco.
THE PUBLIC TRUST BUILDING (1922) was built almost a decade before the earthquake.
THE COUNTY HOTEL (1908 / 1935), once the offices of the Hawke's Bay County Council, is now a boutique hotel.
