Among the many exhibitions at the Hawke's Bay Museum (on Marine Parade and Herschell Street) is one that tells the story of the 1931 earthquake and features "Survivors Stories", a 20 minute video.
Open 9am to 6pm daily (no admission after 5.30pm) in summer (1 Dec - 30 April), and 10am to 5pm no admission after 4.30pm) in winter.
