Hastings City Photo Gallery
Only 20 kilometres (a 20 minute drive) away is Hastings, which also suffered from the 1931 earthquake and has its own rich collection of buildings of the 1920s and 1930s. Because some of its finest buildings are in the Spanish Mission style, Hastings has chosen to promote this style rather than Art Deco.

THE MEDICAL & DENTAL CHAMBERS (1935) is one of the finest Deco buildings in Hastings.
In summer, petunia- mania happens in Hastings and myriads of colourful blooms spill over the verandas of the down-town buildings.
WESTERMAN'S BUILDING The finest Spanish Mission style building in Hawke's Bay, and one of the finest in New Zealand, is the former Westerman's Department Store, now the home of the Hastings Visitor Information Centre.
THE FORMER DOMINION RESTAURANT (1935), a fish café and take-away fish & chip shop, has the finest Art Deco shop-front in Hawke's Bay.
PEPPER STREET HOUSE This house in Pepper Street is the most exuberantly Art Deco house in Napier or Hastings, and one of the best of the many Art Deco houses in New Zealand. It still has its original green colours.
THE HASTINGS METHODIST CHURCH & THE HASTINGS MUNICIPAL THEATRE are two stunning Spanish Mission style buildings.
