Prairie Style Buildings

THE OLD AMP BUILDING (1934) is more Chicago School than Prairie Style, and reflects the work of Frank Lloyd Wright's mentor, Chicago architect Louis Sullivan.

TENNYSON CHAMBERS (1932) is a delightful little building that houses a law firm. Its decoration is similar to that on Frank Lloyd Wright's Unity Temple in Oak Park and Hollyhock House in Los Angeles.
THE HAY BUILDING (1932) was the premises of architect Louis Hay, who admired American architect Frank Lloyd Wright's work and was inspired by it.

THE NATIONAL TOBACCO COMPANY BUILDING Louis Hay's tour de force was the office building he designed at Ahuriri for this Napier based company in 1932. It has been influenced by Art Nouveau, Art Deco and the Chicago School. It bears a strong resemblance to some of Louis Sullivan's buildings
DECO CENTRE, originally Napier Central Fire Station, was built of brick in 1921. After suffering earthquake damage, it was partly demolished and rebuilt in ferro-concrete to the exact original design. It is now the home of the Art Deco Trust
