Join the fun activities available all day in Ahuriri including a children’s fishing competition, corporate tug-of-war, market day at the shops, visit the Customhouse building or attend the Deco Decanted Jazz Festival’s Berocca Brunch, Crawlin’ the Quay, Deco Family Frivolities with Bertie and Bangers off the Barge - something for everyone!

ANTIQUES FAIR

With an extensive range of Art Deco and other antiques and collectables brought to you by dealers from Auckland to Christchurch, you must get along to see the latest items for sale.

ART DECO GUIDED WALKS/BUS TOURS

If you haven’t experienced a guided walk this is a must for the weekend!  Informative and entertaining, your Guide will take you through the world-famous Art Deco City Centre with audio-visual presentation and refreshments all inclusive in the cost.

Guided walks are available every day- bookings essential.

10.00am 1 hour walks start at the i-SITE on Marine Parade, meet your Guide on the back deck of i-SITE with your ticket.

AUTOMOBILIA FOR VINTAGE VROOM

Show off your vintage car to the delight of all Deco devotees. This package includes secure parking all day Saturday, on the Marine Parade from 9am then after the combined Navy Charter and Deco Parade parking back in the Sound Shell to midnight.  Free access during the afternoon and evening on showing of registration ticket to wardens.  Fee includes participation in the parade starting at 12noon.

Sat 18 July. Parking 9.00am to midnight, Parade 12noon - down Emerson Street.

BANGERS OFF THE BARGE

It’s celebration time for winners from Ahuriri’s Fun Day on Sunday with wonderful prizes being presented by Mayor Barbara Arnott followed by a fireworks display off the pontoon to end a great day and the Festival Weekend.

FEET WITH HEAT

Calling all hoppers and gliders, roll up to learn two of the easiest 6-steppers from the Art Deco period  - the Collegiate Shag and the (Rhythm) Foxtrot. Pairs are preferred, although not required and experience isn’t either. You’ll cover all the essential steps of both dances within 60 minutes. The best way to get warm this weekend!

A Mardi-Gras style celebration of jazz music - wander the Art Deco city and enjoy the variety of styles, sounds and venues.

Napier Club, Herschell St (opposite the entrance to HB Museum and Art Gallery) Once again John Fletcher will entertain you with his stylish pizzazz and jazz.

Oceans Cafe, Cosmopolitan Club, Marine Parade. The Twin City Stompers are the iconic Hawke’s Bay jazz band and they’ll keep your foot tapping right throughout the afternoon.

Med Bar, Masonic Hotel, Marine Parade. The John Redmond Quartet digs into the Great American Songbook and presents the great songs from one of the great jazz periods.

LONG LIVE THE MODERN: NEW ZEALAND’S NEW ARCHITECTURE, 1904 - 1984 EXHIBITION

This exhibition looks at New Zealand’s increasingly valued heritage of modern architecture. Curated by Julia Gatley and Bill McKay, from The University of Auckland School of Architecture and Planning, it focuses on the post-World War II period which saw enormous government expenditure on housing, public buildings, infrastructure projects, and a concurrent wave of private and commercial developments. It includes eleven buildings with a section on Hawke’s Bay architects – John Scott, Guy Natusch and Louis Hay.

PIX ‘N PIPES

The Art Deco Trust is delighted to support this fundraising event for the St. John’s Cathedral pipe organ refurbishment.

Returning from Christchurch is renowned organist Barry Brinson  who once again will delight you with his brilliant accompaniment to great silent movies like Laurel & Hardy and the Keystone Cops followed by the 1929 version of “Phantom of the Opera”.
A wonderful programme.

PUTT PUTT ON PARADE

Don your Art Deco attire – (plus fours and furs an advantage, but not a necessity), to swing a round of seaside putting on the Parade at Par 2 – Marine Parade MiniGolf.  Each player is eligible to enter in the draw for a special prize.  Players dressed in Art Deco style will receive a $2 discount per round.

Deco devotees this is a sight to be seen – the magnificence of Deco period vintage cars on display in the Sound Shell followed by a parade with pipe and jazz bands and the cars leaving the Sound Shell heading down upper Emerson Street.
